Basketball, High School Rec League - High School Boys Rec Basketball League Sign up now to join the Rec Boys Basketball League for grades 9 – 12. This is a rec league--so everyone is invited to play. Games will be at Algonquin Regional High School on Sunday evenings between 6:00pm – 8:00pm, each team will play for one hour within this time frame, schedule to be created and posted after Draft Day, December 14, when teams are decided. The first game will be on Sunday, January 4. Kids from all high schools are invited to register for this program. Location Changes: All the games below will be played at the Melican Middle School

Then, working as a team, they’ll slice, dice, peel, measure, and cook until they’ve prepared the finished dish. Class closes with an opportunity to taste the result of their hard work. Students receive a printed recipe card and the focal ingredient - or a sample of the finished dish - so they can show off what they learned! Pickleball Women's 3.5 Level Ladder League - Saturdays Session 1 Women's Only Pickleball Competitive League Individual round-robin league, NO partners needed. Players will play a minimum of six games each week in a round-robin format with different partners. Game match ups will be published on the morning of game play. Each week, players will be individually ranked according to games won and points scored. The ultimate goal is to climb the ladder to the highest rung while having FUN, COMPETITIVE play each week. Awards will be given end of the league for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. Participants must compete in at least 50% of the games possible to medal. Google sheets will be used to track play availability, game match ups, weekly results, and league rankings. NOTE: This league is NOT for players below the 3.5 skill level NOT above the 3.75 still level.
Northborough Recreation reserves the right to move a player to a league with a more similar skill level to ensure league parity. If you have any questions about the player skill levels, please refer to the document below or contact the League Director for clarification.

Serves, Returns, & Ground Strokes (forehand and backhand) | 2.5 Level or Above Determine which is the best serve for you and develop consistent, powerful, and accurate serves and returns. Master the ability the hit strong, well-paced groundstrokes while controlling depth, direction, and most importantly, height to avoid pop-ups. Volleys | 2.75 Level or Above Learn effective volleys to control the net, dictate pace, and create offensive opportunities. From soft blocks to aggressive drives near the kitchen line, strong volley skills enable players to force errors and gain advantage over your opponents as most points are won at the net. Lobs & Put Aways | 2.75 Level or Above Learn to put away high balls with power and accuracy and how to effectively lob both defensively and offensively. Learn how to effectively defend against lobs, both individually and in tandem with your partner including how to move up and back with lobs. Additionally, learn how to return a lob without setting up an ‘attack’ on your team. The goal of the class is to give players the skills needed to reach the 2.5-player level. Advanced Beginner:Players who have completed a Beginner 1 pickleball course or have equivalent skills. The class will center on both the technical and tactical skills needed to advance from a 2.5 to a 3.0 player. Afterschool Creative Writing Program - Creative Writing Does your child have a vivid imagination? Do they love telling stories or creating fantastical tales? Then this is the right program for them. Led and run by high school peer writing tutors from Algonquin Regional High School, this six week long program focuses on getting kids writing while having a good time. This program will run once a week on Tuesday for one hour, starting February 24th and ending March 31st. During the six sessions, they will have extensive freedom to write about whatever they want in a fun, friendly environment. Writing tutors will be available to assist and support the growth of these young writers, creating an environment that nurtures imagination and growth. This is an excellent opportunity for your child not only to improve their writing skills but also to learn to love writing and interact directly with tutors from ARHS.Due to the snow day on Feb 24th, the writing program will now start March 3rd and go until April 7th.

Girls United - Girls United Afterschool Program Girls United is a six-week, free program designed for girls in grades 6-8 to explore who they are, build confidence, and connect with others in a supportive space. Each session will be led by a licensed social worker and will include open conversations, creative projects, and tools for managing stress, friendships, and navigating middle school. We can only accommodate 10 students, so sign up now. The girls can take the late bus home.Teen Mental Health CollaborationThis program is a collaboration between Northborough Recreation and the Health and Human Services Department in an effort to bring awareness to the importance of mental health in teen girls with funds raised through the Jacob Rogers Memorial Pickleball Tournament.

Pickleball Mixed Gender 3.0-3.5 Up and Down the River - Thursdays Session 1 Mixed Gender 3.0-3.5 Up & Down the River:Up and Down the River (or King/Queen of the Court) is a fun, social, yet competitive Pickleball format where players rotate courts after each games, with winners moving up towards the "top" court (Court 3) and losers moving down one court, mixing partners for fresh, fast-paced fun. Winners on the top court stay put (and split partners), while losers from the bottom court (Court 1) stay and play the losers from Court 2. NOTE: This program is NOT for players below the 3.0 skill level NOR above the 3.5 still level. Players outside these skill levels will not be able to particulate.

Pickleball Women's 3.5 Level Ladder League - Saturdays Session 1 Women's Only Pickleball Competitive League Individual round-robin league, NO partners needed. Players will play a minimum of six games each week in a round-robin format with different partners. Game match ups will be published on the morning of game play. Each week, players will be individually ranked according to games won and points scored. The ultimate goal is to climb the ladder to the highest rung while having FUN, COMPETITIVE play each week. Awards will be given end of the league for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. Participants must compete in at least 50% of the games possible to medal. Google sheets will be used to track play availability, game match ups, weekly results, and league rankings. NOTE: This league is NOT for players below the 3.5 skill level NOT above the 3.75 still level.
Northborough Recreation reserves the right to move a player to a league with a more similar skill level to ensure league parity. If you have any questions about the player skill levels, please refer to the document below or contact the League Director for clarification.

Learn to Skate Youth - Learn to Skate Spring - Saturdays For skaters age 6-15 years with little or no formal skating experience and/or instruction, Step 1 : Learn to Skate introduces participants to ice skating in a fun and comfortable group setting. Step 1 classes are 25 minutes long. Instructors use fun, games, props and more to provide age appropriate fun and help skaters acclimate to the ice in a comfortable and safe atmosphere.

Pickleball One Day Clinics - April 4 - Volleys 2.75 Level & Up 1.5 Hour Skills Specific Clinics taught by Suzanne Cox These clinics are for specific level players looking to advance a particular skill set. If you are not at least the level listed, please sign up for one the pickleball lessons first. Serves, Returns, & Ground Strokes (forehand and backhand) | 2.5 Level or Above Determine which is the best serve for you and develop consistent, powerful, and accurate serves and returns. Master the ability the hit strong, well-paced groundstrokes while controlling depth, direction, and most importantly, height to avoid pop-ups. Volleys | 2.75 Level or Above Learn effective volleys to control the net, dictate pace, and create offensive opportunities. From soft blocks to aggressive drives near the kitchen line, strong volley skills enable players to force errors and gain advantage over your opponents as most points are won at the net. Lobs & Put Aways | 2.75 Level or Above Learn to put away high balls with power and accuracy and how to effectively lob both defensively and offensively. Learn how to effectively defend against lobs, both individually and in tandem with your partner including how to move up and back with lobs. Additionally, learn how to return a lob without setting up an ‘attack’ on your team. Drop Shots, Resets & Dinks | 3.0 Level or AboveLearn to use soft shots, drops, and resets to control the rally and create scoring opportunities. Additionally, learn aggressive cross count ‘dinks’ to drive opponents out of position and force player errors. Play like the pros at the non-volley zone. Advanced Techniques | 3.25 Level or Above Key areas of focus include
Controlling the pace of play with resets (defense) and speedups & attacks (offense),
Reading your opponent’s patterns, identifying and/or creating gaps and maximizing scoring opportunities.
Understand effective partner movement including covering the middle and respecting the ‘X’.
