Northborough is beginning a new journey with the Special Olympics.  We are currently offering an adult walking group, unified basketball and soccer.

Unified is open to all people both
with or without intellectual and/or developmental disabilities grades 2- 8. We are looking for team mates who genuinely want to support each others growth as they develop social and athletic skills together.
During registration, please indicate if your child is an

  • Athlete – basketball player with intellectual disabilities or autism

  • Unified Partner – basketball player without intellectual disabilities or autism (including siblings!)

  • Volunteer – someone that would like to help me coach

Each season runs 6 weeks, with weekly practices and the possibility of competing against other towns. The formation of teams depends on the number of athletes available in each age group.  There is no cost to participants, thanks to the long-standing generosity of the Fydrich Foundation.

The differences between unified sports and Challenger is that Challenger used "buddies" to help the athletes play the game, and in Unified sports the volunteers play the game with the athletes. This creates an atmosphere were the kids come together to play a sport.
